The Grand Valley. An enormous chasm that splits the Eastern Continent into north and south. During the age of the ancient empire, a stone bridge was built to span the gap. But as it was unable to withstand the flow of time, it has since mostly collapsed. Despite this, it still stands as the sole path connecting the north and the south. Wishing to venture south, Wil now attempts to cross this bridge. Ten days earlier…
Wil | I think I’m about ready to take on a major expedition. What do you think, Tyler? |
Tyler | Yeah, I figure you should be able to handle it. |
Wil | And what do you think, Narcisse? |
Narcisse | You could try heading south. |
Wil | Why south? |
Narcisse | Weissland’s said to be the birthplace of spell arts. Who knows? You might be able to strike it big there. |
Wil | I like the sound of that. Could be a fun trip! Are you in, Tyler? |
Tyler | Sure, why not? I’ll tag along. |
Wil | Great. Let’s get ready to hit the road, then. |
Narcisse | I won’t be going with you this time. |
Wil | But why? You’re the one who suggested Weissland in the first place. |
Narcisse | Because I thought it might make for a good journey for YOU. Weissland’s far too cold for someone my age. It’ about time I retired anyway. |
Wil | Don’t say that, Narcisse. You’ve still got plenty of adventures left in you. |
Narcisse | I suggest you fine someone else. |
Talk to Cordelia. | |
Cordelia | It’ll be a little lonely without Narcisse… |
Talk to Tyler. | |
Tyler | Everybody’s gotta live their own lives. |
Move to Grand Valley. | |
Talk to Baron of the Valley’s Subordinate on stone bridge.
Baron | The toll’s one million crowns. |
Wil | What!? That’s way too much! |
Baron | I suppose I could bump that down to 10,000 crowns… If you fork over a quell. |
Wil | I see what’s happening here. They’re trying to pull a fast one on me because I’m a digger. |
A woman is observing the situation.
??? | Planning to cross the bridge? |
Wil | Yup. Why? |
??? | The toll is ridiculously expensive. |
Will | I came prepared. …Well, somewhat prepared, anyway. |
??? | You’re a digger, right? They’ll definitely ask you to hand over a quell. |
Wil | What!? That’s no good. I won’t give up my quells. |
??? | I know a different route. |
Wil | You do!? |
??? | Yup. But the thing is, it’s a bit too dangerous to tackle alone. That’s why I’ve been standing around waiting for a suitable partner to pass by. How about it? Do you want to try taking my secret route? |
Wil | Might as well. |
??? | Let’s go. We’ll go through the valley below instead of crossing the bridge. |
Descend the valley. | |
Narcisse | Wait! |
Wil | Narcisse! |
Narcisse | I should have known you’d get up to something reckless. Do you have any idea what kind of place this valley is? Those who cross will find not only monsters blocking their path, but fog as well. There’s a reason people pay the outrageous bridge toll despite this route existing. |
Wil | But it does lead to the other side, right? |
Narcisse | Already made up your mind, have you? So you’d rather risk your life than hand over a quell. I can see you’ve become a digger through and through. Fine. I’ll go with you, but let me be clear: this is the last time. |
Wil | Thank you, Narcisse. |
Narcisse | Hey, woman. What skills do you have? |
??? | How rude! I have a name, you know. |
Labelle | I’m Labelle. My specially is the bow. |
Narcisse | An archer? That’s rare. What takes you south? |
Labelle | There’s a man I’m pursuing. I won’t say any more than that! |
Proceed through the valley.
Wil | (The fog’s getting thicker…) (We’ll be in trouble if we don’t get through soon.) |
As they move deeper into the fog…
Wil | The fog around here is especially thick. This isn’t normal… What’s this…? Some kind of… stick? No, a spear? |
Pull it out. | |
Wil | It’s an Ice Lance. Take it. The fog’s cleared a little… Is this what was causing it? |
Proceed through the valley.
Wil | With this little fog, we might be able to get through. Now’s our chance! |
Stepping beyond the valley…
Narcisse | As agreed, this is where we will part ways. |
Wil | Narcisse… |
Narcisse | Good luck in your endeavors. |
Wil | Thank you. |
Narcisse | Take care, Wil. I just… hate the cold so, so much. |
